About this deal

The result is an mid cut hiking shoe that can be worn for many consecutive hours and suitable for off-road use on any type of terrain. To be fair, La Sportiva does offer the boot in dedicated wide sizes, and that likely would have been the better option for me. Perfect volume adjustment and foot hold thanks to the dedicated lacing elements means you will get a perfect fit every day. Having said all that, we walked the entire 268-mile Pennine Way national trail in a pair of these boots, which crosses some of the boggiest moorland in the UK, and we were more than happy with their performance. The lacing system is integrated with the upper through eyelets sewn onto the inner elastic fabric and hard plastic reinforcements on the outer mesh: This system allows the tension of the lacing to be distributed over the entire upper for maximum comfort.

So whether you're a fair-weather hiker who mostly sticks to the trails or someone who likes to power through cross-country terrain in suboptimal weather and wet conditions, the aggressive outsole and incredible traction of the Ultra Raptor II Mid won't disappoint. With that said, I noticed no unusual wear or breakage, and La Sportiva has a strong reputation for making quality boots. The Ultra Raptor II Mid GTX features an affordable and lightweight design, as well as a comfortable and supportive fit that is waterproof and built to last. Weight: When I threw these boots on my kitchen scale, I was stoked to discover that they are the lightest pair of hiking boots I’ve demoed to date — weighing in at a scant 1035 grams or 2 pounds 4. The TPU skeleton is especially important allowing the lace pull-force to be distributed equally over all areas of the upper.

If you're looking for a comfortable hiking boot that offers protection from the elements while moving quickly through technical terrain, then look no further than the La Sportiva Ultra Raptor II Mid GTX.

While more of a hybrid between a running shoe, approach shoe, and hiking boot, the lightweight design offers comfort without adding a ton of bulk. Local production means less CO2 emissions, more control over working conditions, and helps to boost the local economy. It’s a fine boot for its designed purposes, but wouldn’t be my first choice for heavy loads over rugged terrain.

These features assist “push off” during the propulsion phase while running, making these models who use injected midsoles, ideal for use on off-road trails.I put the Ultra Raptor II through its paces on wet Vancouver Island trails rife with puddles, constant rain, and river crossings, and the Gore-Tex lining has been up to the task. The high weave air mesh upper has an integrated comfort layer on the inside of the boot and the ankle collars were remarkably comfortable as well. While not as durable as a fully leather hiking boot, the synthetic mesh delivers lightweight performance on technical trails with abrasion-resistant Gore-tex technology built to last for many seasons. With a lot of technology focused at the bottom of the boot, it’s no surprise that the Ultra Raptor II fared well on most surfaces. La Sportiva is a climbing company first, but that expertise has transferred over nicely to the hiking footwear market.

For comparison, Salomon’s X Ultra 4 GTX checks in a little lighter at 1 pound 14 ounces, while La Sportiva’s own Nucleo High II GTX is similar at 2 pounds 1. We’d actually say that with this boot, the regular fit feels more like a narrow fit, whereas the wide fit is more like a regular. In this case, La Sportiva opted for Gore’s Extended Comfort membrane, which is designed for use in warmer conditions or during higher-output activities. The La Sportiva Men's Ultra Raptor II Mid Wide GTX - Black / Clay has the following sustainability attributes. The La Sportiva is also a little more performance-focused overall, including a more technical look and gaiter-like cuff.Ultra Raptor Mid II GTX is the mid-cut version of the Ultra Raptor Mountain Running icon, ideal for fast hiking and excursions with light loads. While the Ultra Raptor II Mid stands out for its lightweight and comfortable design, that doesn't mean that you'll have to sacrifice durability. We did experience some stability issues in the Falcon, but tightening up the laces resulted in adequate support when backpacking with a heavy load over tricky terrain (also in Patagonia). Plus, thanks to their clever lacing, you’ll be able to adjust their shape to fit your feet, so an excellent fit without any pressure points is ensured.
